Environmental Benefits Survey

Stanley Machining is committed to using renewable energy and protecting the environment. For the years 2008 through 2010 Stanley Machining and Tool Corporation purchased 6,072,000 Kilowatt Hours of Renewable Energy Certificates, which corresponds to 60% of our power coming from renewable resources.

This is equivalent to the following:

  • 8,106,120 pounds of CO2
  • 796 Passenger cars not driven for one year
  • 472 Households electricity use
  • 3,064 acres of pine
  • 1,238 Tons of waste

Purchase of these renewable energy certificates helps to support:

Environmental Benefits

Electricity production is the main source of U.S. Industrial air pollution.  Fossil fuel generators cause 23% of nitrogen oxide emissions and 40% of man-made carbon dioxide emissions.  However, renewable electricity production causes zero or minimal emissions and is environmentally preferable.

Sustainability

Renewable energy is domestically and readily available and naturally replenished.  Use of renewable energy conserves limited nonrenewable resources such as natural gas, coal, and oil.

Energy Security

Greater use of renewable energy reduces dependence on foreign oil.  Renewable energy projects use domestic energy sources and are smaller, more dispersed and less vulnerable to disruptions and terrorism.

Economic Stimulus

Renewable generators support local economies, create jobs, use native resources and localize electricity production.  Energy dollars are spent in the domestic economy, fostering economic growth.  Renewable energy technologies can be labor intensive, employing personnel whose wages provide more income to the local economy.  Agriculture and forestry often benefit.
